A lot of people just can’t face the fact that they’re getting older, and their bodies are not the same. Many respond by training too hard. Why is this so dangerous and how does it threaten your long-term health? What is the mental shift from competitor to normal gym bro? Why is telemedicine the future? On this episode, fitness expert Jay Ashman shares the importance of playing the long game with your training and talks about bouncing back after a major health scare.

Jay is the owner and head coach of Ashman strength. He competed in strongman in the early to mid 2000’s never finishing lower than third in an amateur contest. His last contest in 2010 ended with a second place finish. After his competitive career was over he went through an eye-opening heart scare. Once he got through that he transformed himself physically and mentally by dropping 30 pounds of unneeded weight and focusing on the synergy between hard training and health. He is a former PT manager in NYC at Equinox and in Long Island at Big Al’s Fitness. He was also the former Director of Athletics at Gorilla Pit in Mentor, OH and the Head Strength Coach at BrewHouse Barbell in OKC. Testosterone levels for the average man begin to drop about 10% per decade. What are some of the misconceptions and misnomers that are getting in the way of people using it? Why is the idea that testosterone causes prostate cancer such a huge myth? How do side effects come about when you’re on TRT? On this episode, we talk all things TRT with fitness expert and best-selling author, John Romaniello.

At the start of the show, we talked about the importance of establishing your testosterone baseline and how low you should let it get before looking into doing TRT. We also talked about why biochemical uniqueness is the ultimate determinant, and the importance of finding the right needle size to reduce scar tissue. John also talked about mitigating fluctuations, and why getting less than 6 hours of sleep for as little as 14 days can have a catastrophic effect on your natural testosterone levels. Towards the end, we talked about the use of peptides.

- Testosterone and increased quality of life in the short term vs. decreased longevity in the long term
- The difference between sexual dysfunction and decreased libido
- Why TRT does not cause cancer
- TRT and depression

From age 30, physically speaking, everything is on a downward slope. All you’re doing by optimizing is decreasing the grade of that slope. If you do testosterone right, there are no side effects and you won’t need other medications unless there’s a medical need. Testosterone in high amounts exacerbates things to which you were already prone, which can explain the side effects.

Some of the benefits you’ll experience are reduced “brain fog”, increased cognition and clearer thought patterns-- and this is just the beginning. The correct testosterone optimization protocol can correct many issues. So get your blood work done, and find the right doctor to support you.

Healthcare providers don’t have a way of paying for the cure of diseases, all they can do is cover chronic illness, which is keeping us stuck in this paradigm. If we can take optimization to the next level, we can preventatively tackle the world’s top killer diseases.

Medical marijuana has been a game changer for people with conditions like insomnia, anxiety and chronic pain. Why properties make it such a powerful antidote? Chronic pain, anxiety and insomnia are the most common conditions that medical marijuana treats. These are also the conditions for which pharmaceutical medications are most prescribed. This could literally wean millions of Americans off addictive and lethal opiates, and this would completely transform the current medical system. Marijuana has a biphasic effect, too little won’t do anything and too much will make your pain worse. That’s why it’s so important to get the dosing on point, so that your intake falls within the optimal dosing range. Ultimately, you want to fall in the therapeutic window so you’re not experiencing side effects.
