A lot of people just can’t face the fact that they’re getting older, and their bodies are not the same. Many respond by training too hard. Why is this so dangerous and how does it threaten your long-term health? What is the mental shift from competitor to normal gym bro? Why is telemedicine the future? On this episode, fitness expert Jay Ashman shares the importance of playing the long game with your training and talks about bouncing back after a major health scare.
Three Takeaways
At the start of the show, Jay shared on his upbringing and what it was like working as a bouncer. Next, we talked about the right way to approach training as you age. We also talked about why so many impressionable kids have the wrong idea of fitness and weight training, and why it’s so important to take the slower process to strength.
We also discussed:
It’s necessary to train with longevity in mind-- not just the short term gains of pumping as much iron as possible. The right way to do it is slow and steady, not hard and fast. The wrong approach will destroy your body and only lead to pain. Why wouldn’t you consider a progressive dosage of testosterone in addition to mitigating other risk factors? The ultimate goal is to build muscle, because muscle is the greatest deterrent to aging.

Testosterone levels for the average man begin to drop about 10% per decade. What are some of the misconceptions and misnomers that are getting in the way of people using it? Why is the idea that testosterone causes prostate cancer such a huge myth? How do side effects come about when you’re on TRT? On this episode, we talk all things TRT with fitness expert and best-selling author, John Romaniello.
"For the vast majority of individuals, testosterone supplementation is not a question of "if", but of "when". Once you look at it through that lens, you ask yourself: 'Why am I waiting?'." -John Romaniello
Takeaways
- Establish a testosterone baseline by getting tested every 2 years in your mid-twenties onward. Only when you establish a baseline can you really know when things start to drop.
- There’s a very good chance that an overweight person can have elevated estrogen symptoms because fat tissue is where the aromatase enzyme hangs out.
- Sleeping 6 hours or less per night for 14 days can drop testosterone levels by up to 15%.
At the start of the show, we talked about the importance of establishing your testosterone baseline and how low you should let it get before looking into doing TRT. We also talked about why biochemical uniqueness is the ultimate determinant, and the importance of finding the right needle size to reduce scar tissue. John also talked about mitigating fluctuations, and why getting less than 6 hours of sleep for as little as 14 days can have a catastrophic effect on your natural testosterone levels. Towards the end, we talked about the use of peptides.
We also discussed:
- Testosterone and increased quality of life in the short term vs. decreased longevity in the long term
- The difference between sexual dysfunction and decreased libido
- Why TRT does not cause cancer
- TRT and depression
From age 30, physically speaking, everything is on a downward slope. All you’re doing by optimizing is decreasing the grade of that slope. If you do testosterone right, there are no side effects and you won’t need other medications unless there’s a medical need. Testosterone in high amounts exacerbates things to which you were already prone, which can explain the side effects.
Some of the benefits you’ll experience are reduced “brain fog”, increased cognition and clearer thought patterns-- and this is just the beginning. The correct testosterone optimization protocol can correct many issues. So get your blood work done, and find the right doctor to support you.

Less that 1% of all federal funding is dedicated to studying, preventing and addressing the underlying causes of disease. Why is it so crucial for us to solve this problem? How do you boost fertility without compromising life span? Why is the sick care system making optimization difficult? On this episode, Managing Director of the Inovium Ovarian Rejuvenation Trial, Aaron Traywick is here to share on his work in age management, fertility and his views on the current state of health care.
The truth is always a lot more clearer when it’s decentralized. -Aaron Traywick
Takeaways
At the start of the show, Aaron shared on his work with politicians on the Hill, and why it’s so necessary for us to work on preventing the causes of the diseases of aging. Next, we talked about how Crispr Cas9 can be used to augment, change and edit a disease state. Aaron also talked about how the government is making the consumer pay for the investments of healthcare companies. Towards the end of the show, he shared on his fertility work.
We also discussed;
The only thing we can do to fight the ills of today’s medical system is take to matters into our own hands and be proactive. One of the most powerful ways we can be proactive is by sharing data and information, so we can overwhelm the current system to change it. The powers that be can’t suppress information at the rate and speed that it’s evolving. Healthcare providers don’t have a way of paying for the cure of diseases, all they can do is cover chronic illness, which is keeping us stuck in this paradigm. If we can take optimization to the next level, we can preventatively tackle the world’s top killer diseases.

Medical marijuana has been a game changer for people with conditions like insomnia, anxiety and chronic pain. Why properties make it such a powerful antidote? How do you use it without getting high on it? Why is correct dosing so critical? On this episode, The Medical Marijuana Expert, Dr. Rachna Patel joins us to discuss her work.
You have to use medical marijuana within certain parameters to get the benefits of it but not the adverse effects. -Dr Rachna Patel
Takeaways
At the start of the show, Dr. Rachna shared how she got started, and how her frustration with opiate addiction and overdoses led her to her work with medical marijuana. Next, she shared on the conditions she most commonly treats, as well as the people who shouldn’t use marijuana. We also discussed how marijuana affects sleep and concentration levels. Towards the end of the show, Dr. Rachna shared how she’s taking her business virtual.
We also discussed;
Chronic pain, anxiety and insomnia are the most common conditions that medical marijuana treats. These are also the conditions for which pharmaceutical medications are most prescribed. This means that if the use of medical marijuana became more widespread, it could potentially replace all of those medications. This could literally wean millions of Americans off addictive and lethal opiates, and this would completely transform the current medical system. Marijuana has a biphasic effect, too little won’t do anything and too much will make your pain worse. That’s why it’s so important to get the dosing on point, so that your intake falls within the optimal dosing range. Ultimately, you want to fall in the therapeutic window so you’re not experiencing side effects.
