One of the biggest issues we have in healthcare is the lack of knowledge around the biomarkers as people age. How can we solve this by taking a more integrative approach? Will we ever get to the mass consciousness that testosterone is good? What is wrong with the over-protocolization of healthcare?

On this episode, I’m joined by Director and founder of Precision Medical Care, Dr. Catherine Johnson to talk about how to help people get back to balanced health and the practical steps it will take us to get there.

If you over-protocalize and you don’t take a precision approach, you will lose validity to care and you will see errors. -Dr. Catherine Johnson

Three Takeaways

  • Longitudinal data point for biomarkers: if we know where someone’s biomarkers were in the past and there’s a drastic change, we can find the root cause quicker and solve the root issue.

  • Because we’ve lost balance when it comes to health, people’s opinions have become split and that’s a major reason for the demonization of hormones.

  • You will save money when you go to the right doctor because they will start low go slow and see what you need. The wrong doctor will mess you around as they try to figure out what you need.

At the start of the show, Dr. Catherine shared how she got started and why she made the change from emergency medicine to precision medicine. She talked about how chronic disease manifests when people aren’t taking care of themselves. We talked about how the Baby Boomers have been so influenced by popular media, and how that impacts their health negatively. We then talked about the importance of teaching young people about their biomarkers. Dr. Catherine also talked about her her Precision Testosterone Optimized Therapy.

We also discussed;

  • The biggest issue we face in optimization
  • Why and how the sick care system is lashing out
  • The risk of going too high, too fast with hormone optimization therapy

To help our society heal and get better, we have to take a very integrated approach and it starts with teaching young people about the biomarkers for good health. That includes tracking things like skeletal muscle mass, blood pressure, testosterone and other hormones, lipid profile, vitamins and other vital details. We must define what the biomarkers are for an optimal health span at every age so that we end up with longitudinal data points. That way we can find the stressor, and remove the contributing factors before it’s too late.

Many patients and even physicians are so hung up on getting to what they consider the perfect testosterone number that they miss the whole point: wellness. What is driving doctors’ obsession with the number, and why does it have a lot to do with insurance? Why are AIs harmful to optimized patients? Why is patient feedback so crucial?

On this episode, I’m joined by the co-founders of Summit Rejuvenation Centers, Scott Otey & John Fogerty, to talk about how they are blazing the trail in optimization.

You can’t make your patients feel good when you’re billing them through insurance because you can’t even get them to an optimized level. -John Fogerty

Three Takeaways

  • In the absence of any symptoms or side effects, stay on the same course of treatment. Don’t use numbers to determine the action that needs to be taken.
  • The best people in optimization are able to bridge the bodybuilding, performance, and fitness world with the clinical science.
  • It’s so crucial to document and do case studies that demonstrate and support our treatment protocols and how they are working. It will protect us legally.
  • Even if you use AIs for symptom resolution for people who over-aromatize, it still causes harm.

At the start of the show, Scott and John shared their backstory and how they got started. Next we talked about the problem with testosterone pellet therapy, and why it’s impossible to titrate the dosage effectively with the delivery system. We discussed why traditional therapies just aren’t making sense anymore, the harm that comes with suppressing estrogen, and how this shows up in the health issues a lot of bodybuilders face.

We also discussed:

  • The importance of treating on symptoms and feedback, not numbers
  • How hard is it for women to get access to quality hormone optimization therapy
  • The power of bridging the gap between fitness and clinical science
  • Why you can’t really help patients when you’re under insurance

So many men are trained on an understanding that there’s a number that corresponds to a level of happiness and acceptance, and this is driven by most non-optimization doctors. Doctors who are in the mainstream can’t really help their patients because insurance puts so much red tape on them. Therefore they feel like they are better off not treating people because they don’t want to end up losing the money they get from patients. Ultimately this drives men to be focused on their numbers and not their symptoms. This dooms them to stay in this tailspin until they work with an optimization physician who knows what they’re doing.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) are systemic in our society, and many military and law enforcement service personnel are suffering because of it. To make things worse, the mainstream medical system just doesn’t treat these people correctly. What misconceptions are getting the way of these men and women getting the treatment they deserve? What changes need to happen in mainstream culture to better respond to these issues? On this episode, I’m honored to be joined by my good friends Dr. Mark Gordon and Andrew Marr from the Warrior Angel’s Foundation to answer these questions and more.

TBI stems from the trauma, the inflammatory mechanism, and the down regulation of the brain hormones. If we can mitigate or modulate that, we have a real viable solution. -Andrew Marr

Three Takeaways

The biggest problem we have is TBI being erroneously diagnosed as a psychological issue and not a brain chemistry one.

The mainstream market isn’t driven by a desire to improve their quality of health but to make money off PTSD patients.

We look at testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone as reproductive, gender or sex hormones, but each of them has a whole other spectrum of benefits in the body.

At the start of the show, we talked about how erroneously labelling TBI as PTSD has been a setback for TBI treatment. We also discussed whether sick care would ever change this and what it would take to make that happen. Andrew shared on the upcoming documentary he’s working on and Dr. Gordon shared on the upcoming event they are running.

We also discussed:

  • How to produce superior patient outcomes
  • The recent Psychology Today article Andrew is proud of
  • Why this is the age of interventional endocrinology

If TBI is treated as a psychological problem by pumping SSRI medication into patients, it just won’t solve anything. What causes TBI is the effect of trauma which disrupts the chemistry in the brain by creating inflammation, and this inflammation stops important chemicals in the brain from doing their jobs. The true solution to the issue is hormonal and chemical. Sick care is just throwing a band aid on everything with drugs instead of looking at the core ideology of the issue. Until that’s corrected, the masses can’t be healed.

When the human body experiences different types of trauma it results in various types of scars, and these can actually impede health and performance. One of the most common modalities to healing these traumas is the application of microcurrents, but not all these modalities are created equal. What is the Dolphin Neurostim and what are its benefits? Why is it so much better than the electronic healing pads sold all over the place? How does it aid in healing and pain management? On this episode, I’m joined by master pain practitioner and pain management specialist, Kelly Armstrong, to talk about this awesome device and all its capabilities.

Not only can the Dolphin relieve pain, it can also empower the nervous system to work better. -Kelly Armstrong

Takeaways

Micropoint stimulation (MPS) is an integrative mixture of a lot of different therapies that look at the body from a different perspective. You have to treat the whole body and treat all of the traumas for the body to actually heal.

The Dolphin Neurostim has a tip applicator or a point which functions like a non-invasive needle, and gives you the same outcomes when used to treat acupuncture points.

Electronic healing pads actually lower muscle oxygenation and recovery.

When you treat the body with the microcurrent, it is actually changing and improving the health of the tissue. This will decrease pain and increase movement.

At the start of the show, Kelly talked about the importance of healing and treating the body as a whole, and why past traumas need to be looked at as much as new ones. Next, Kelly shared on how the Dolphin Neurostim works, and the multiple benefits the device has. We also talked about scars and how they impede health, vitality and performance; as well as how the microcurrent helps prevent accidents and injuries in athletes. Kelly also shared on battlefield acupuncture and how it works.

We also discussed:

  • The Dolphin vs. the healing pads we see in malls and drugstores
  • How the Dolphin helps athletes recover and regulate
  • Using the Dolphin to reduce delayed muscle soreness from training
  • How military professionals can use the Dolphin

Not all electronic modalities benefit the nervous system or heal the body’s traumas. The Dolphin Neurostim is special because it performs multiple functions that are vital to the body’s healing. Its direct current mimics our own body’s energy, and the microcurrent works at a cellular level which helps cells create more protein synthesis and reestablish a more normal cellular membrane. As we age, we accumulate scars and traumas, and stress can prevent our healing. If we use the right tool, we can heal and improve our vitality to strengthen us and make our bodies more resilient.
